As we embark on this cinematic journey, we are honored to have the esteemed Armidale International Film Festival and the Armidale French Film Festival as our steadfast companions.
Our History
The tale of The Belgrave began in the wake of the Capitol Theatre's closure in 1983. A group of passionate individuals formed "Friends of the Cinema" with a dual mission: to showcase films commercially and rekindle the flame of a permanent theater in Armidale.
In those early days, films found their home at the University of New England, thanks to the dedication of part-time staff and volunteer ushers who hosted an impressive 20 screenings per month.
The dream took tangible form when the old UNE Union collaborated with the Ex-Service Club. On February 18th, 1995, The Belgrave Twin Cinema proudly opened its doors.
The site operated successfully through many changes in the landscape and in 2024 Regional Cinemas took control of the location, with plans to upgrade the experience as we grow to meet the needs of our passionate local fan base.
Our cinema boasts two auditoriums, The Olympian and The Arcadian, linked by a central foyer. As you step in, you'll discover ticket outlets and a candy bar stocked with all your favourite cinema treats, from delectable choc tops in multiple flavours to popcorn and refreshing soft drinks. A small cafe area resides in the foyer to delight the coffee lover with a pre or post movie drink. Our online experience has grown as well, with ticketing sales now being preferred via the online portal, to ensure you don't miss out on your seat.
